Buying a second-hand stroller

A good stroller lasts for years, which is why so many are for sale second-hand. This is how you choose the type that suits you, judge a listing and check the stroller when it arrives.

Which stroller suits you

For a newborn you usually choose a pram with a carrycot, and later switch to the seat unit or a buggy. A travel system also has a car seat that clicks onto the same chassis.

Think about how you will use it too: lots of stairs and a small lift call for a light stroller that folds small, unpaved paths for bigger wheels.

  • Measure the boot of your car and the spot where the stroller will stand at home.
  • Look at the weight if you will often have to lift it.
  • Choose air tyres for forest paths and gravel, smaller wheels for the city.
  • Check whether the carrycot is suitable for your baby to sleep in, if you plan to.

What to check in the listing

You cannot contact the seller on BabyMarket.deals beforehand; contact details are only shared after a purchase. A good listing therefore tells you everything you want to know.

  • Close up photos of the frame, wheels, fabric and hood.
  • A list of everything included: carrycot, seat unit, rain cover, footmuff, adapters.
  • The stroller's age and any repairs.
  • That the chassis and carrycot belong together; not every carrycot fits every frame.

Shipping

The seller packs the stroller in a sturdy box and takes it to a drop off point. You pay with iDEAL, see the shipping cost at checkout and follow the parcel with tracking.

Until the carrier scans the parcel, you can still cancel the order.

When it arrives

Check the stroller as soon as it arrives, before you put your baby in it.

  • Fold and unfold the stroller a few times: the mechanism should click firmly into place.
  • Test the brakes on a slope.
  • See whether the wheels run straight and the suspension does not squeak.
  • Click the carrycot and seat unit onto the frame and compare everything with the listing.
